ECape health MEC to read riot act

CAPE TOWN - Eastern Cape health MEC Pumulo Masualle is to “read the riot act” to his senior and middle managers on Tuesday, his department said in a statement.

It said he would be meeting all managers from hospitals, districts and head office in Bhisho.

“The MEC is expected to address matters that are critical to the strategy to turn the department’s internal working and service delivery procedures around,” the statement said.

These included financial management, transformation attitudes among staff, and the national code of conduct for public service.

The meeting comes in the wake of the revelation that the department is R1.8 billion in the red.

The department has also been paying out millions of rands on irregularly awarded contracts.
